The date that wasn’t.

In a recent effort to placate me, Jade made the call to Buko Nero. While he balked at a very bad six letter word – fusion, he made the attempt to appease me (or so he says) and I suppose, that’s all that matters. Read the rest of this entry »

I eat fungi

31 03 2008

After having a gorgonzola appetizer at Buko Nero, I was lusting after gorgonzola anything much to the protest of my inlactose intolerant belly. Six is the number of pills I have to consume to ensure that I don’t suffer from an erm, upset stomach after having cheese.

I traipsed down to La Fromagerie, which is part of the Saint Julien group. Being a relative newbie to cheese, I asked for well.. gorgonzola and was handed Gongonzola Piccante Extra! That sounds mucho cheeso to me. The cheese whiz (pun intended) offered a taste test which was moot since I was cheese desperate.

$10 later, I bought enough to make at least 8 servings of the appetizer that I had at BN.

Perfect. I made the crostini by brushing it with an extra virgin olive oil and crushed garlic blend. Toasted it for a bit, and cut a slice of heaven.

It wasn’t as creamy as I remembered and it was certainly much more salty. Hmmm. Different variety of gorgonzola? I thought. A quick curious google later, I am better informed. Gonzongola comes in two varieties – piccante and dolce offers a much sweeter and softer texture to the palate.

It was the dolce that I wanted. This was still good, just much too salty for my tastebuds and chockful of fungi. I tried not to look.

Where:                            La Fromagerie
Address:                        5 Mohamed Sultan Road
Damage to pocket:     $17 ($10 for the cheese and $7) for a measly rustic baguette which tasted no different from $2 baguette from the local bakery down the street.

Jumping on the bandwagon

Catching glimpse of the much touted iPhone recently, I figured that it would quite a while before I would be part of the Joneses for this trend.

To my surprise, my dearest MOO decided to give me an early christmas present. So, I am a new owner of a hacked-in-asia iPhone.
